ABOUT ME
I started practising yoga in the 1980s. At the time I had a stressful job in the fashion industry and I was looking for something to help me ‘unwind’.
I have heard it said many times that yoga is as much about ‘undoing’ as it is about ‘doing’ and I can certainly relate to that! I was like a tightly coiled spring and little by little yoga worked it’s magic on me. That’s not to say that I didn’t have to work hard myself, people are surprised at how physically demanding yoga can be, but I found that the more I worked and devoted myself to the practice the more I benefitted from its healing, energising and transformative powers.
I considered myself fortunate to have found this amazing discipline and I knew, almost immediately, that I’d like to teach. It wasn’t until 2000 that I finally applied to do the training, becoming a certified Iyengar yoga teacher in 2003 . My yogic path hasn’t always been smooth, in 2011 I had major surgery and had to adjust my practice before and after my operation. During this time I went to yoga therapy classes both as a student and as an assistant. I learnt a lot!
My yoga journey is continuing and in 2019 I gained the senior intermediate 1 certification. Perhaps I am the first person with a bi-lateral hip replacement to have taken the exam? I don’t know . . . .
